• Make sure you have plenty of light, so you can see well. Work with someone else if it helps – one holds your baby as the other trims the nails. Gently pull your baby’s finger pad away from the nail to avoid cutting the skin. Position nail between the cutting edges and squeeze the handle to cut the nail. Trim toenails straight across to prevent ingrown nails.
• To use the nail file start from one of the outside corners and file toward the center. Don’t file back and forth across the entire nail tip because it can damage the baby’s nail. When you achieve the desired length and shape on one side, file from the opposite corner toward the center. Go slowly
